We were so excited to partner with Wilderdog this past month to test out their fleece jacket, crap carrier, Biodegradable Dog Poop Bags, and Marina Ultra Light Collar and leash.
The Fleece
Flik got to test out the Pacific Blue Fleece Jacket in Medium size. This lightweight jacket has an adjustable neck gaiter, elastic hind leg loops, and a webbed waist strap to secure the jacket to your dog's body.
We had about a month to test out this jacket as winter weather started in California. It's a great lightweight jacket to keep your dog warm in weather as low as 58 degrees, but we did notice that if it was any colder than that, Flik would start to shiver a bit. He is a short-coat dog and only 4 months old, so he does get cold easily, but overall, it's been a great go-to coat for walks/hikes in cooler weather.
What We Liked
One feature I liked was the elastic hind leg loops on the jacket, Flik did not. 😂 This is just due to him being a puppy and not used to having things on his legs. But it is a great addition to keeping this particular styled jacket in place on the backend of your dog. Just keep in mind it might take time for them to get used to the feeling of the straps. However, they are removable if your dog does not like the feeling.
The adjustable Neoprene neck gaiter was another favorite, particularly because Flik has a narrow neck so it made it easy to keep the jacket nice and snug by adjusting the gaiter.
Lightweight: This jacket is nice and light, and Flik had no mobility issues in it. It was also nice when hiking with it, so we could easily take it off and put it in our packs without making them heavy and taking up a lot of space.
What We "Didn't"
To be honest there wasn't anything major that we were not fans of with this jacket. One of the only main issues is that the webbed waist strap did slip down a few times if it was not adjusted tight enough around Flik's waist. This would only happen after he would be running around in the jacket but other than that it would stay secure.
The only other thing we noticed is the jacket was a bit boxy in the fit. We do want to point out that Flik is a puppy and his body is still filling out. Now it does fit him a bit better compared to when we first got the jacket, it's still just a bit loose in the back end area so if you have a leaner, short coat dog it might be a bit loose in that area.
Overall we are big fans of the Fleece Jacket and would recommend it if you want a nice lightweight jacket for cooler temperatures.
Marina Ultralight Collar + Leash
Wilderdog was also kind enough to send us their Marina Ultralight Collar and leash. These are both very lightweight and easy to clean. They also have a few different color options as well. I would only recommend this collar if your dog does not try to slip out of collars or does not pull on walks. We found that we used it most while hiking with Flik off leash or any activities where he would be running around/moving a lot.
What We Liked
Collar: We loved how ultra light it is! It is very thin so it's great for dogs that move a lot and don't like having collars on.
Leash: One of our favorite features about the leash was the padded handle and aluminum carabiner attachment swivel and lock. The handle made holding the leash comfortable and we liked how the carabiner locked in place so the leash is nice and secure to the collar.
What We "Didn't"
There wasn't anything we didn't like about the collar and leash. 😊
Crap Carrier + Poop Bags
Lastly was the crap carrier and poop bags. The crap carrier is a rubber piece that you can attach to anything. Hiking pack, harness, leash, etc. We found that we preferred to keep it on our hiking packs so that if Flik poo'd on the trail mid-hike we could just attach the bag to the carrier and not have to smell anything!
We love the crap carrier and will definitely have it on us when we are out and about. It was also nice because it kept us hands free.
We also had about a month to test and use the poop bags that Wilderdog offers. We use poop bags daily, so a box of the bags lasted us about a month (that's with using about 1-3 bags a day). The design on the bags themselves are silly and cute with the poo emoji and they are biodegradable which is great.
While we loved the design we did find that the bags were a bit thin. You have to be careful when tearing them otherwise a hole would be left in the next bag. The only other thing we noticed is the sticker on the first bag also tore that bag when trying to remove it, so we ended up having to discard the first bag of almost every roll.
Overall we are in loved with the Wilderdog gear they have to offer and can't recommend it enough! Click below to see all the products we tried out and the others that they have to offer!
